No-one bloody warned me it was National Idiot Day today!
They did however tell Nick and he performed his bout of total idiocy with style!
He's still in Cornwall and has taken it upon himself to make a habit of phoning the kids every night to say goodnight. Not a bad thing. Anyhow - my Nan invited me to go and stay at her's this weekend so I sent Nick a text to advise him that that's where we'd be and make sure he had the phone number.
Oh dear. I thought I was being reasonable. He was Uber pissed off!
He ended up phoning my Nan and saying he was going to drive back from Cornwall and come to get them from her on Saturday. He was very rude about me - saying about how "she fucks off every weekend to see her fucking boyfriend".
Now I should explain here that my Nan is a bit middle class and can come over as a mild, slightly posh old lady who wouldn't say boo to a goose.
Pft! That is SO not her! After knowing her for the best part of a decade, Nick still hasn't figured out where all the women in my family get their sharp tongues from.
Twat!
My Nan's response to that was to tell him something along the lines of "well what do you expect? You haven't been sleeping with her for over a year. You weren't a proper husband. The relationship is over. You can't blame her can you?"
Oh dear Nan - that may have been deserved but it wasn't too helpful!
Nick was SO fucked off about her knowing he hadn't slept with me for ages. When he called me later he was shouting down the phone about everyone knowing about his sexual dysfunction - until I pointed out that the only thing people know actually is that I spent a year and a half sleeping on the sofa - no-one cares whether he can get it up or not!
HAHA
He also said that he has every right to come and collect the kids whenever he wants and I can't stop him and if he wants to come to my Nan's on Saturday and get them then there is nothing that I can do about it.
So I told him that I was taking that as a threat and that he needs to remember that what works for him also works for me and that if I decide to just up and take them off somewhere, then there's nothing he can do about it either.
At that point he shut up - because he still doesn't want me taking Gemima and Aaron to Keith's house.
The man is a natural idiot!

BarclayCrud Strikes Again!
Fucking Goddamn BarclayCard!
Or BarclayCrud as they shall now be forever known.
I HATE credit cards.
I had to apply for one as part of re-sorting my finances in November. I did it with a personal advisor at the bank. You would have thought nothing could go wrong, wouldn't you?
Duh! Big Fat No!
A week later, after making ONE application, I received TWO cards with different numbers and different credit limits. Naturally I decided to keep the card with the higher credit limit so I called BarclayCrud, advised them of their error, cancelled one of the cards and activated the other. Should have been simple. Everything is done on the computer.
Pft! Yeah! Right!
I used the BarclayCrud ONCE - in December - to put down a deposit of £1200 for my car while I was waiting for the insurance cheque to clear. The ONLY reason I used it was because I needed the car immediately and I knew I had the funds to pay it off.
Simple right?
Ha!
This morning I opened the post and got a bit of a shocking awakening! TWO separate bills from BarclayCrud!
What The Fuck?!
Bill number one was for the card I activated. It had the £1200 on it as well as £1000 balance transfer plus £25 transfer fee! Eh?! I didn't transfer any money!
I just about got to grips with the fact that I'd have to call them to sort it out when I opened bill number two for the card I cancelled... which, surprise surprise, had a £1000 balance transfer plus £25 transfer fee on it!
Too much for one morning!
After much animated discussion with a BarclayCrud customer service person I was able to establish that each £1000 balance transfer had been put on during the application process and that the payments had supposedly gone to Egg.
But I don't have an Egg card.
So how did they make a payment to a non-existent card number?
The BarclayCrud lady didn't seem surprised by all this - in fact she quite happily told me not to worry and that it would all be sorted out because this sort of thing has happened to people before and got sorted out!
Bloody hell! That's not very inspiring!
Solution? Once they have corrected their error I will pay off the £1200 that I spent and then cancel the cards completely.
No wonder fraud is so easy when big companies that should know better make fuck-ups as basic as this!

A Sense Of Normality....
It's lovely not having HIM here.
The kitchen is clean and looks about twice the size it normally does because everything is tidy.
The living room is mostly sorted and will be done completely by tomorrow evening.
Everything that needs to be done has been done. The kids rooms are tidy. The laundry is done. The house is calm.
This evening, after work, I picked up the kids, trundled off to ASDA and bought some DVDs with the general detrius of shopping.
We got home, had dinner in the living room together and watched a film (Arthur and the Invisibles). It was so nice to be able to do that without misery guts complaining about this, that and a third thing.
The kids finished their food and watched the end of the film and then did all the things they had to do and went to bed with no problems.
Amazing!
NOT! It was just what it is like to be NORMAL!!!
I can't wait until the place is like this all the time!

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, Its Back To Work We Go....
Back to the grindstone again... except it was a really boring day today and EVERY other social worker was off sick so I had to do duty! Nothing came in until 4:30! Sodding typical!
Back to normal tomorrow - home visits and assessments. Yeehaaaa!
Someone remind me... why do I do this job...?

And He's Off!!!!
Well Nick finally made up his mind and buggered off to Cornwall on Sunday morning at the crack of dawn. After much discussion, he relented and dropped the kids off at my Mum's on Saturday night.
I got back to my house this afternoon to drop things off and the place is a super-smelly shithole. No-one has been here since Sunday. The Hamster and Gerbil are both stinky - God only knows when they were last cleaned - probably when I did it last week.
The kitchen is back to the foul state it was before my submission last week. Piles of dirty dishes left on the side all encrusted with God only knows what.
I am off to my Mum's to get the kids. I will tackle it all this evening. Nothing here for dinner so looks like we'll be scrounging food at Mum's anyhow !

Sophie's Back
And there is no mistaking it! I am sure even the neighbours in the next street know she is back now!
The hospital have allowed her to come home before her operation on 15th Jan on the strict understanding that she is to be on a NO fat diet.
This means absolutely NO fat whatsoever. Unlike the LOW fat diet she was supposed to have been on previously which involved her nipping off and buying lots of sweets etc which she forgot to tell her Dad she was having!
Evidence discovered under her bed in the form of sweet and biscuit wrappers!
NO fat is not a concept Sophie is happy about and she had a proper tantrum when she came home and was not able to have the sausage sandwich and junk food that she wanted.
Poor Keith bore the brunt of her anger and frustrations. The coming weeks won't be an easy time for either of them I think.

Happier New Year....?
Happy New Year to all my friends and family. I hope 2008 brings more of what you all need.
New Years Eve was the quietest and the only drink-free New Year's Eve I have had since I was about 14. Not a good time for Keith. Lots of tears and lots of cuddles.
