The following scam has recently come to our attention as a number of Officers received an e-mail containing the images and text below. Further investigation identified this as a very convincing fraud.
Though not targeted at LBB corporate systems I bring it to your attention as an example of the increasing sophistication of scam e-mails. It is easy to see why someone might be fooled and it acts as a reminder to us all to be very careful when online.
The key to validating such messages is to contact the contractor (in this case Paypal) directly. If you received this and were a Paypal customer then you should go to their published website, either using a search engine like Google, or your Favorites. This means you make sure you go to the right website. You must avoid using the links in the fraudulent message itself as they will take you to a convincing but bogus site.
